My students are a VERY busy crew! I do AS MUCH movement and kinesthetic learning with them as I possibly can but they are still extremely squirmy. I would LOVE to give them flexible seating options to help get their wiggles out and keep them engaged in the work they are doing.
Just ONE independent choice that is made in the classroom can keep a student motivated and make them feel empowered. We have a couple seating choices in our room now, but not enough for whole class participation. My goal is that every student will be able to make a good seating choice that will benefit their learning. I am asking for Wobble chairs so that students can balance while they work, more bean bag chairs for cozy reading on our classroom rug, lap desks so that students can work in any location around the classroom, and mobile chairs so that students can sit anywhere they like and rock. I’m also asking for a classroom carpet so that I can set up an area to spread these new choices out on.
Through donations of used items as well as personal purchases I have supplied the options of clipboards, some beanbags, crate seats, and one scoop rocker. This is a great start but as this is the beginning of my second year I need help growing our options.
