In the AVID program, we use Chromebooks several times a week to help students tackle rigorous coursework and we have been fortunate enough to receive several Chromebooks each year for the past four years. The students have to conduct in-depth research on colleges, use the computer to do many projects that deepen the knowledge they are learning in the core classes, use them to revise and edit each other's written work, do weekly grade checks and SMART goals, and write reflections on the progress they are making with their goals and their learning.
With digital literacy being such a key in helping students be college and career ready, our Chromebook use is essential, but we desperately need a protected place to store and charge our Chromebooks.
We also continually conduct research and formulate presentations, as well as planning and carrying out leadership and service learning projects. A color printer and scanner would be a game changer in what my students can produce and share with the community.
