Students will be able to focus and manage their emotions and behaviors to create academic success. We are in the process of creating a separate learning space for the students with Autism to be able to adapt during their day to meet their unique needs. We are creating quiet and sensory space and opportunities for them to be successful in their functional academics, increase social skills, increase communications to express their wants and needs, and support their behavior management. As we are just building this environment for them major items are needed to start this project. We appreciate your time and contributions to make this possible for our students.
Students with autism often display stereotypical behaviors and urges to jump, run, toss their bodies onto bean bags and the floor. The chairs chosen and bean bags allow them safety when these urges occur. The manipulatives chosen allow them something to fidget with in their hands to settle their behaviors and allow them to focus while the teacher teaches them functional academics, the student is content and behaviors balanced with the fidgets/manipulatives. The more we can communicate with our students and manage their struggling behaviors the more they will improve on their goals and academics. We want to offer them every avenue of success for them.
