I teach a self contained special education class of 3rd through 5th graders at a Title I school. 74% of the families at our school receive free lunch. All of my students have special needs. Their reading levels range from just connecting sounds with letters to reading on a third grade level. Most of my students need direct, frequent and intense reading instruction to make progress. They need to experience concepts from many different angles over multiple sessions. Despite their multiple challenges, they are ALL learning to read. An increase in our classroom library would be an enormous support in their development.
