A designated library nook will inspire my students to engage in reading independently for knowledge and for fun by having an area rich with sensory details such as rugs, pillows and materials to respond to their readings. Currently, my students have no such library area, other than a bookshelf with grade level materials where they get to pick and choose and either go back to their seats or find a space in the room to read. Having this reading nook will especially appeal to my struggling readers who may need to feel inspired and comfortable to take their reading to the next level.
With these new library area seating and manipulatives, my students will feel comfortable and engaged in reading new and challenging materials and feel strongly about reading independently in their designated reading nook.
The first and foremost is to give my students an opportunity to feel comfortable and relaxed in their learning especially through reading. Students who are also having a struggling day may use the reading and quiet nook to regroup and relax themselves back into their learning.
