Flexible seating allows students to choose seats that help them focus on their learning and creates a safe, comfortable environment. It also creates a sense of community and allows for collaboration.
In my classroom, my students can choose where they can learn and focus best. Their current choices are their desks, under their desks, or the floor. Some students even prefer to move their desk to a quiet location during independent work time. I have requested wobble chairs and a futon for our classroom.
I would love to give my students the opportunity to have more choices in their seating. Students feel empowered by being given choices; and better yet by being given choices that will help them.
I have personally seen the benefits of allowing choice of seating in my classroom. Students are more engaged during team-talk and are eager to come to my class. I hope by giving them more choices to sit, it will result in focused, comfortable, and happy little learners!
