In the art room, I value and see all of my students as individuals with various learning styles and needs. Each of my students complete projects at their own pace, some faster than others. If a student has extra time in the art room after they've responsibly cleaned up their space they will have the option to free draw or find a cozy spot in the room to read a book. I believe that any opportunity given for a child to get lost in a book is a great one! Allowing for students to have more than one option for what to do with their time when they finish is also important and valuable to the student.
The list of books such as: The Day the Crayons Came Home, The Day the Crayons Quit, Beautiful Oops!, Ish, The Dot, The Very Busy Spider, Jeremy Draws a Monster, I Ain't Gonna Paint No More!, will make a difference in my students' learning by helping them discover that it's okay to make mistakes, that messes can turn into masterpieces, and that there is no right or wrong in being creative. I am hoping that with the help of these books students will understand that it is okay to try and try again when something doesn't go the way they've planned. The books The Colors of Us and I Like Me help to further instill a sense of self-love and empathy towards others, which will contribute to our positive and fully inclusive learning environment.
The Rainbow Blocks with crystal beads in them will be used as a sensory break tool for my students with special needs. The same applies towards the Playfoam Shape and Learn Alphabet Set. The Colored File Folders will help in keeping our learning space organized and easily student accessible!
