I am an elementary music teacher. I also teach in a low-income area so many of my students do not get opportunities like this. I am trying to start a pBone group for 4th and 5th grade students at my school. The pBone is a plastic trombone that is perfect for elementary age students to learn how to play. It works and operates just like a real trombone just made out of plastic. I want them to be able to learn a musical instrument and not have to worry about being able to afford the instrument. I also want them to use this opportunity to consider if they want to go into band when they get to middle school.
Many of my students really enjoy band instruments. They are very excited when they have any opportunity to be around a great band program. This opportunity for them to be able to learn how to play a band instrument would be awesome for them. Not only will they be learning life skills they can take with them for the rest of their lives, but they will also be able to have fun in the process.
