Currently our 64 fifth grade student have limited access to texts that also teach them about scientific concepts. With limited time, we need high-interest text that we can easily link across subjects. Our students severely struggle in reading and finding texts that spark their interest is difficult. One thing we have figured out, is they are very interested in animals! With these texts, we will have entry points for all students. Not only will they learn about different environments, but they will also learn about text features and they will be able to link their prior knowledge to new learning!
