With limited funds to integrate technology into the art classroom, it has been difficult to introduce elementary students to the art medium of photography. In a world where cell phones have made it so easy to take pictures and selfies, the actual learning of what makes a good composition and how we can manipulate our photos as an art medium have become overlooked. I would love to be able to introduce my elementary students to the art form of photography, a new kind of art medium for them. I would love to teach them about what makes a good composition, some rules to follow when photographing an object and how to manipulate and mount and frame their completed prints. I am hoping to ignite a passion in them for photography at a young age, so that they can continue on with their learning at the middle and high school levels, and an even bigger hope is that they can experience the world of the darkroom (which is becoming obsolete) - now that is something truly magical!!
My students need digital cameras, cases/straps, and cards to be able to explore the art medium of photography. My goal is to be able to introduce this medium each year with my students.
