Introducing iPads to our classroom will allow my students to become familiar and comfortable using technology to enhance their learning. Currently the only technology for students to use in the classroom is an outdated listening center. The addition of iPads will not only engage students but also help them to explore far beyond our classroom and our small town.
By supporting this project you are helping my students to see first hand that learning is exciting and important. They will use the iPads to explore learning apps that can be tailored to meet their individual strengths and needs. Students can practice letters, sounds, colors, shapes and other early skills that will set the foundation for future learning. Learning will be differentiated in that students can play games and apps that are tailored to their specific learning needs. For example, students who need extra time to master letters will have that opportunity while students who need enrichment may be working on blending letter sounds and decoding words. In addition, iPads will allow children to guide their own learning as we use them to explore and learn about topics that are of particular interest them. One student may be very interested in dinosaurs while another is interested in robots and coding. We can use the iPads to help each student to explore these topics individually. Students can then share their new learning with their peers. Allowing students to guide their own learning is a great way to get them engaged and eager to learn more!
