Break out boxes were first developed as a gaming experience that educators could use to engage learners of any age. It uses locks, invisible markers/UV flashlights, timers, safes, and locked boxes, along with story lines, puzzles, and codes. In the game, students are introduced to a problem that incites them to battle with puzzles and challenges in order to unlock related locks. Students must work as a team in order to ultimately open the final lock and solve the game.
These break out box kits allow for the facilitation of games where players use teamwork and critical thinking to solve a series of challenging puzzles in order to open the locked box. Students are required to demonstrate other needed life skills such as collaboration, creativity and communication. In today's society, 21st century skills that demand learners to be skilled collaborators, problem-solvers, and critical-thinkers are especially essential. This game allows for students to improve these skills, while also learning required content. I am asking for a variety of 12 locks, 2 book safes, 2 UV markers, and 2 UV lights in order to create breakout boxes and explore Breakout Edu so my students can collaboratively ESCAPE a variety of challenge games. Participating in and creating games will allow students to collaborate and think critically about the games.
