We have made great progress with our students but with our program being fairly new, we lack items that can offer sensory input that could ultimately help our students to be calmer and focus more on their studies. We are fortunate that many of our students from last year have returned for the new school year.
For my project we asking for materials and resources that will help with the classroom environment. For example, Wobble and rocking chairs will help our students focus and stay seated for longer periods of time. Bouncy bands will go on students chairs to help them move in their seats quietly while they do their work without effecting other students. We are in need for a color printer so we can print assignments in color. So assignments can be visual appealing to students which helps students complete assignments. We are in need of some sensory material such as Strench-eze Band, sensory brush, textured ring that will help students with sensory issues that can help decrease aggression and anxiety with students.
For many of my students it has been a struggle for them to adjust to school. Many of them are overwhelmed by the school environment. Although, our students may have Autism they expected to learn the same information as other students in a general education classroom. For many of my students this can be overwhelming task. Sensory resources and materials and can help my students focus and remain calm while learning new information as if they were in a general education setting. While also gaining the respect of the their peers.
