My 5th grade students are unique because although they love to read, many of them still do not comprehend English well. They utilize illustrations and my voice during read alouds to understand text. My Spanish-speaking students are ready to learn English through reading, but they need some support! My students are grateful for their education and want to improve their reading skills. My students live in various apartments around the neighborhood, and they are excited to learn at our low income school every morning! For most of them, taking care of their families takes priority over homework or daily reading at home. At school, I want to provide a fun, literacy-rich environment that they look forward to every day.
