In today's fast paced society, skills students need to survive in the world after their educational career has drastically changed and so the role of the teacher and school has changed too. No longer is it necessary to remember facts when everything is just a web search away. Instead, more than ever, students need to develop life skills to help them problem solve and think critically about issues in our society.
My students learn differently than the old school house style. They are part of a project based learning program where they are expected to learn how to be an independent learner.
In this program, they are given learning guidance and expected to learn curriculum, then apply and show their learning through a project. Students organize, plan, research and collaborate on their projects as well as meet deadlines. They practice these skills over and over again in preparation for real life.
