All students can become avid readers, they just need to find a book that they enjoy. Please consider purchasing books, so that my students will learn how amazing reading can be.
I have worked at Title I schools in the past the refused to buy books for the students, saying they are too dumb to read the text or they will just steal the books. I am not okay with this mindset. I want my students to have the same opportunities as the students in the wealthy school districts. They deserve the chance to try.
I have seen this first hand. I buy as many books as I can afford and have occasionally allowed the students to keep a book that they enjoyed, as a way to foster the love of reading.
