I have been in deep thought about "Early Bird" work (morning work that is done right when the students come in). I have seen the way my students look at their worksheets in the morning. I have seen the boredom on their faces. It is either too hard for some of the students or too easy for some of the students. It is never just right. We need hands-on materials for first thing in the morning!
With these hands-on materials, the students will be able to have an alternative to "Early Bird" work. These materials will help the students to think outside of the box early in the morning, which will help their brains stimulate and get to thinking in ways they didn't know their brains could think.
We are asking for magna tiles, young architects design blocks, pipe builders, geo boards, and more. They will be able to express themselves in ways they couldn't do with a worksheet. We are also asking for word building tiles to help with creating sentences and words to deepen their vocabulary and writing skills. The students will be having so much fun, and they won't even realize they are learning! SCORE! :)
My students are VERY active. With these materials, every morning, the students will have the opportunity to create and think outside of the box. They will not have to do something too easy or too hard for them first thing in the morning.
I know that my students will benefit greatly from these materials. I think my students will be excited to come into the classroom each morning to see what box they get to use that specific day. After they are able to play, talk, and laugh together, they will come to the carpet ready to learn!
