My students are a combination of low, medium and high readers. The student body is 97 percent African American students, 2 percent Hispanic, and 1 percent Caucasian. We have 100 percent Free lunch. Many of our children live in one parent homes, and others with grandparents or other relatives.
In our district my school is often the one that lacks programs, funding and other benefits that other schools are granted.
I want to revive our student body and make kids want to highlight their greatness. It will help with the overall school culture. Seeing themselves portrayed in a positive way will help with self esteem. Finally, this will give them a voice to share their gifts and talents with other peers, parents and the commumity.
