My fifth graders love it when I read aloud to them, and this chapter book has been an impetus to very important discussions about true friendship, feeling like an outsider because of being different, and bullying. We also use this book as a mentor text to help understand what good writers do when writing realistic fiction.
A class set of Wonder books will help my students engage in meaningful class discussions about how we are all different and how it is important to respect each others' differences. I would love for them to be able to read along with me so that they can increase reading comprehension and fluency.
