In my classroom, students identify themselves as authors. Throughout the year, they learn to craft personal narratives, poetry, procedural, opinion and expository texts. Through whole class read-alouds and discussions, students learn what good writing looks like. Over time, they begin to notice and name specific author and illustrator moves. My students are encouraged to try out some of these mentor moves in their own books. To celebrate their writing, I would like to 'fancy publish' some of their favorite pieces.
In order to provide new students with the opportunity to 'fancy publish' their best writing, we need a printer and ink. Publishing is an important part of the writing process and helps students think purposefully about their readers. It also helps to strengthen their identify as an author, as the books they write will go into the classroom library. Please help us acquire the tools to help our young authors!
