With the addition of iPads into our classroom, we will be one of the only classrooms in the school that has access to such technology. My students will be able to access apps that reinforce skills and enable higher level learning. iPads will not only become a tool that will help create more authentic learning experiences in the classroom, but also build twenty first century skills that our children need in order to be successful in a quickly evolving technical world. My students will be able to work in centers with the iPads, writing, reading, learning phonemic awareness skills, working with math manipulatives, and more. Students may not only use the iPads to connect with the world in new ways and build early literacy, math, and technological skills, but also conduct research on environmental science and work collaboratively, helping them achieve the Common Core 6th Grade Environmental Science Standards. They will be able to create both independent and collaborative projects in order to show a true understanding of concepts.
Our classrooms are not yet at the level of technology to meet their needs as learners. This grant will help to close that gap just a little bit more. iPads are integral and the amazing tools that should be present in every classroom. My students also need some accessories to protect their iPads so that the iPads can be used to help students be successful learners for years to come.
Special thanks to Tom's of Maine for supporting teachers and encouraging students to make meaningful connections when learning about environmental science!
