Kindergarten is a year that reading and the love for reading can really take off for a student. Last year, I watched my english language learners lose interest in reading and books because they were just beginning to be introduced to the english language. When I would read a book, I would see their interest start to reappear.
Using this technology, my students will have the opportunity to love books while gaining important English vocabulary. While the students are listening to a story on the iPad, they are able to follow along through highlighted text. This allows the students to visually see the word but also hear the pronunciation.
Using the iPads would give my students the opportunity to listen to books as well as create an interactive learning space. The students would be able to listen to a story followed by different activities that will allow the students to increase their comprehension. The options on the iPads are almost endless in their ability to interact with my students. The students will be able to:
-listen to audio books
-play interactive reading and writing games
-strengthen their comprehension skills
-identify letters, sounds and words
-identify numbers
-solve equations
-expand their love for learning
