The classroom carpet will allow my students to take ownership of a space in the classroom to participate in learning activities. We use carpet time for phonics lessons, shared reading, writing lessons, and math lessons as well as a meeting place to discuss important classroom information. The students in my classroom are very active and the variety of manipulatives will help to keep them engaged in learning how to make sets. The use of counters such as these is essential in learning one-to-one correspondence...a skill essential to beginning the practice of addition and subtraction. The linking chains with number cards will allow the student to recognize numbers as well as count that specific number of items.
