As more and more research shows, children learn best when incorporating movement and hands-on activities in a calming environment. My students, who range between the ages of five and nine, need opportunities for movement to keep them engaged and interested in my reading and writing lessons. The alphabet connector blocks and sight word steps would help me create endless opportunities for my students to have hands-on experiences during my direct instruction.
To help build a enjoyment and love for reading in my students, I need to create a calming, comfy, and fun reading environment. Last year, my students loved to find a "comfy spot" in my classroom to do their reading. Many of them chose to sit on the floor and lean against the wall to read. The couch and pillows would greatly help to create a more comfy, calming and enjoyable environment for them to read the books they love! For some of my students, this is the only time they have the opportunity to read with support, so I want to make sure it is an enjoyable experience!
