As a low-income school, we have limited resources on reading materials to provide to the students. Many of my students have little to no access to grade-level appropriate books at home. The best way to improve literacy is by reading as much as possible!
My students need tablets to provide them with a wider array of appropriate, engaging reading material. They will also use online applications on the tablets to analyze and summarize what they have read, and present their learning through digital projects.
Many of our projects are designed to help the larger community, such as our most recent goal of coming up with solutions to reduce plastic waste, and persuade others to utilize those solutions. With the tablets, the ideas that my students generate could reach a global audience. In this way, we can empower the students to learn, research, advocate, and communicate ideas effectively. Please help us become better readers and digital citizens!
