While many 10- and 11-year-olds use handheld devices regularly, their proficiency with internet research, word processing, and other technology skills is less developed. I can't tell you how many students have "lost" documents when saving in Microsoft Office! In small groups or centers, students will use these Chromebooks, headphones and mice to access online resources for improving reading, to research, or to use Google Drive for writing and other projects. This will equip them with skills that will extend throughout the rest of their lives as technology users.
Use of this technology will transfer control to the student to practice what they learn in an engaging way.
Many students learn best through experience, and technology provides that in ways that extend outside the walls of the classroom.
