Tools such as therapy balls and bean bags allow the distracted and active learners to wiggle and be comfortable while still focusing on their learning! They use them throughout the school day while reading, completing work or even engaged in a game at the table.
The easel allows me to work with them while maintaining eye level and not standing over them, which does not bring connection. I do not want to stand over them, I want to be engaged with them.
Many of these tools and items create a more nurturing and comforting environment that allow a special needs student to feel safe, while being themselves and accessing learning.
