I have 110 students who come into my classroom each day! The students in each of my four classes will use the yoga balls, wobble chairs, stools and tractor seats during direct instruction, group activities and individual work time. These students requested the types of optional seating and even recommended each item on the list. The chairs currently in my room are hard as cement and very heavy, making it difficult for my students to sit for even ten minutes at a time. They would rather have a choice in what they sit on while working on their daily math problems, while engaging in group discussions and while working on their Chromebooks.
The range of seating options will allow my students to decide for themselves about how they learn best. Being comfortable in their seats and being able to move will help increase my students attention spans and help create a relaxing environment. Having a choice in their seating will increase the students' buy-in during lessons, which will result in increasing their ability to learn the content being presented. I believe in giving my students every possible advantage and having seating options will make their classroom experience more enjoyable.
