I teach 2nd and 3rd grade in an urban, public school setting that is in a high-need community. My culturally diverse students are eager to learn everyday. My daily focus is to create a positive classroom community in which my students take ownership. There's always collaboration conversation and lots of questions from these inquisitive children. If you join our class for the day, you will see students engaged in project-based activities that are thematically-based. They will use their research skills to develop understanding about their topics and work together to create a product that will demonstrate understanding. My curriculum also encompasses a social and emotional component because I believe that it is important for students to learn how to communicate with each other and for future success in personal and professional lives. I also believe that it is vital for success as a local and global community.
