These materials will be used as part of a STEM year-long project in my AP Environmental Science class. We live and work in a dense urban neighborhood- with no opportunity to make a garden out doors. So we are bringing it indoors! Students will design, build and maintain hydroponic gardens in the classroom all year. The AP Environmental Curriculum includes both city planning and agriculture. This project will allow students to explore urban gardening options and learn what exactly goes into the food we eat. Students will experiment with their systems and by the end of the year- have engineered a sustainable and fruitful garden. There has been an interest for a garden club in our school for 2 years. I am also treating this as a pilot for a potentially larger project. If this is successful- I will be able to open this learning opportunity to the entire 6-12 school as a club.
