My Social Justice Library will encourage my students to read more complex and challenging texts during the school year. My students face adversity and challenges in their lives, yet do not always see themselves in the books that they read in school.
Students will have the opportunity to engage in stories about characters like them as well as to empathize with the struggles of characters that are different from them. This diverse text set will present a variety of fiction and nonfiction stories to engage all of my students.
It breaks my heart that my students do not attend a school with a functioning a robust library. My students deserve to have access to exciting and engaging books that will open their minds and supplement their learning.
