I already know the value of giving my students the freedom and flexibility to choose their seating during instructional time. My students are happy when they get to choose their spot to work and have a sense of pride when they are productive and successful in their decision. Currently, my 3rd graders have the option to move from their desks to the floor or to the back table to do their work. Some students stay calmer and more focused when not sitting in a chair or at a traditional desk. Some can see the board or focus wall more clearly when they have the option of moving to the floor. I also have students who struggle with sitting still, keeping their chairs from tipping backward and bumping into other students' chairs and desks, or falling backward altogether! Providing my students with these new seating options will allow me to offer even more flexibility to their learning, which will, in turn, help my students to become more productive and successful!
