Many of the students require either calming or alarming tools to sustain attention during the school day. Currently our school has a sensory area however it is very bright and has limited resources. I would love to add more tools to help meet students' needs to facilitate increased participation in academic tasks. With these resources teachers will have a safe place to bring students when they are in need of a sensory break.
The tools I have requested will be used to make the space dark, provide students with proprioceptive and vestibular input, and help to calm down their bodies when they are overstimulated.
The giant pillow will be a place for students to lay down on when they need to relax their bodies.
The body sock will provide students with deep pressure when they are over-stimulated. The deep pressure will help to calm down their bodies.
The vibration will be used as a calming mechanism for students. They can have the pillow on their laps or various parts of their body for calming.
All these tools will help to assure students are able to self-regulate in the sensory area so then they are able to return to class with a calm body ready to engage in academic tasks.
