My students visit our school's art studio after school for two hours each day. They have many great ideas to bring color and joy to the people we call neighbors at our city's homeless shelter. We want to donate whimsical clocks to the adults and teens to motivate them that each day is full of opportunities for a better future. The unit themes we encounter in the classroom: community engagement, civic duty, government and nonprofit business, etc. are big ideas we want to put into action in our art studio.
By teaching children that learning takes place everywhere and affects all our lives, I hope to show my students the interconnected webs that bind education and our community's well-being. My kids need the metal/woodshop tools to measure, cut, build, and strengthen their understanding of how art and science are manifestations of their core creative energy. We hope to create lasting one of a kind clocks made from scratch to give away.
