In order to continue a strong home-school relationship, these book pouches will help my students keep their independent reading books safe and dry. These pouches are big enough to also house a reading skill and strategy folder so that students can practice their comprehension skills at home. While many of my students are responsible for going home, making dinner, and doing homework by themselves, reading at night gives my students a chance to extend their thinking, to build confidence, stamina, vocabulary, and fluency.
All children deserve the right to read. In previous years, I gave my students Ziploc bags to carry their books home. However, those bags quickly fall apart due to rain or snow, and even sometimes hungry mice or insects. I want my students to have a sense of pride while carrying their book bags from my intervention room to their classrooms and home: they can show with pride the number of books they are reading each night.
