We are hoping to purchase drums and other percussion instruments to enhance our music with rhythm. Many of our choral pieces have percussion parts to accompany them. Specifically, the congas, bongos, and tambourines will be used in multiple pieces each year. The percussion instruments add a different quality to the choral experience. The percussion instruments also provide an important layer to the text/music relationship when singing music of different cultures. We have some students that aren't singers. These students would benefit from having the opportunity to still participate by providing the percussion accompaniments. This will also allow us to form a better working relationship with our band students to incorporate percussionists from our band program in our concerts. Our chorus budget provided by our county is extremely small and does not allow for purchases of this value. It is my hope that we will be able to fund these percussion instruments before our holiday concert in December.
