As I move from first grade to fifth grade this year, I take with me the dream that my students will all become empowered citizens and develop a lifelong love of literature... But first they need access to diverse books!
Authentic literature will be a window for my students to experience the world around them from a different perspective, supporting their development of empathy and critical thinking. Through a mix of diverse books that tell the stories of brave minorities that typically go unheard, my students will research and create ideas for Social Projects while immersing themselves in the past. Through these materials, I hope plant seeds of justice and empowerment in each of my students.
