Using these products will bring technology into the classroom and help demonstrate how to use technology for education and learning purposes, not for entertainment only. In this day and age of rapidly growing technology, just presenting the information by lecturing in front of the classroom is not going to cut it in developing our students' education. By delivering some of the instruction through technology devices and building on their own independent learning skills is vital in today's education. The students will be using technology devices to create their own project based learning experience and how to discover new information that is available to them through appropriate use of technology devices.
The products that our class is requesting are iPads for students to work in small groups and collaborate on projects. Last year we were able to use 1 iPad and 4 Chromebooks to access Google Classroom and Google Drive to develop research projects about simple machines and Rube Goldberg. Each group collaborated on a report about simple machines and then did research on how to use those simple machine to design a Rube Goldberg style chain reaction. The groups then built their own simple machine project and filmed the simple machines and posting everything on Google Classroom. All the students really became involved with the project and learned hands on about science. The lesson tied in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. This year the students are excited about doing their version of the project.
