Many of the students enrolled in chemistry will have completed 3 years of science without ever having witnessed the magic behind a chemical reaction. The materials I have requested are basics in any chemistry classroom. The giant periodic table that marked the chemistry classroom in every high school across the country is missing from the walls of the classroom. The fire blanket that is completely necessary, but hopefully is never used is also missing from the walls of the classroom.
The project supplies specifically highlighted are those that can be used in whole group instruction and modeling, such as the gas law demonstration kit or the exothermic reaction modeling supplies. Other basic chemicals, acetone and acetic acid, can be used for years to come and are helping to expand our developing chemical supply.
Lastly, the science in the kitchen kit will be used to develop a culminating unit for the students. The school is focused on teaching through project based learning which allows students to investigate real world applications of science. The kit allows myself as the instructor to easily model real world chemistry to the students in a multi-step investigation.
