In order to meet third grade standards students need variety of resources. A great way to meet multiple grade-level standards is to teach science and social studies together. "Time for Kids" is one resource that can be used in the classroom to teach science and social studies and enhance my students reading comprehension skills.
Having the "magazines" for the students to read and learn about weekly encourages new learning and an overall engagement and excitement about the world around them.
When students get to take the magazine home they are also able to show their family what they are learning about the world. This will, hopefully, promote conversations at home about new learning. How exciting to be able to learn new concepts while reading?
