In 7th grade science, my class covers abstract concepts such as atoms, balancing equations, and atomic particles. These abstract ideas can gain new meaning by creating actual items that students construct that will assist them in remembering these ideas. Students can make 3D models of atoms or cells that they can use to study with these pens.
In addition, we can use these pens for addressing real life issues that will involve the science concepts that I teach. Students will use the engineering design process to solve real world problems that exist locally or even globally. For example, they can design solutions for our environment. This type of work in science creates students that will become citizens that are literate in science and whom think of their impact globally.
