Students enter the classroom with active bodies, but minds often shut down when confined to a traditional desk. This year, my students need to experience a different learning landscape: spaces of possibility, room for movement, spots to think. The goal of this project is to shift student perspectives, and change habits of mind, by giving more choices of where to work.
Flexible seating is an essential part of a learner-centered space; communication, open collaboration, creative, and critical thinking flow more freely in a classroom of choice including work space options. With Norwood Stools, learning is not limited to one spot in the classroom. Instead, the stools enable a wide range of individual movement without classroom disruption perfect for "fidgety" seventh graders.
