The library should be the hub of the school and should be a fun place for students to create, invent, and learn. They should be able to do this, not just from reading books, but from being part of the action.
Makerspaces are defined as a place in which people with shared interests, especially in computing or technology, can gather to work on projects while sharing ideas, equipment, and knowledge.
Having Makerspaces in our library will allow students to become hands-on, in either creating Scrapbooks, Coloring, building Legos, playing games, creating robots, folding Origami, gluing Popsicle sticks, designing clay sculptures.
After learning about Makerspaces, I brought Legos, Scrapbooking supplies, coloring books, and games from home, but this is not nearly enough activities for our students to enjoy throughout the school year.
I feel this is needed in our library because not all students love to be outdoors, and having this special environment for students to feel safe and can show creativity will improve student engagement, all while having fun!
