The supplies listed: book bins, writing journals, and folders will be used for students to individualize their learning.
The students will use the book bins daily to add books that match their independent reading level. Each day the students will practice reading to self, reading to a partner, and reading to the teacher. They will use these book bins to organize their reading materials and be able to track their reading development.
The journals will serve as a writing tool for students to demonstrate their growth through writing. Every day students will practice writing in their writing journals in a whole group, small group, and individually. Their writing journals will be used to track their development of writing through the course of the year. It will also serve as an assessment tool for the teacher!
The folders will be used for students to organize their materials for Daily 5. They will keep assessments here, reading strategies they are learning, and activity work that relates to their reading and writing skills.
The other materials; sound phones, pointers, and sound teaching tubes will be used as supplemental materials for a whole group, small group, and independent learning. Students will use the sound phones when receiving the individual and small group instruction to practice phonics and phonemic awareness. They will use the sound teaching tubes to identify beginning sound awareness A-Z. This will especially support my English Langauge Learners in the classroom that are learning English for the first time.
