Our school had a total of 237 assertive discipline reports and incidents for the entirety of the 2016-2017 school year, and we are currently on track to beat that number this year. Through December 2017, we had a total of 125 assertive discipline reports. We are hoping to reduce the number of assertive discipline incidents and subsequent reports by incentivizing students to engage in the schools 3-B's motto.
These STEM educational kits and games will be used as prizes monthly for students entered into the 3-B's raffle by receiving a "caught ya" award for being caught fulfilling the school motto of "be safe, be respectful and be responsible". Some awards are given by staff to students, and some are given to students by their peers to reinforce positive, productive social behaviors versus the old-school model of using punishment to reduce problem behaviors. One winner per grade and one grand prize winner will be chosen monthly at the Attendance and Academic awards assembly to promote these behaviors and recognize students doing their part to make our campus the best behaved school in the district.
Smaller prizes will be used for grade-level winners, and larger STEM kit prizes will be used monthly for the grand prize winner.
Students who receive the grade level awards will be encouraged to keep the prizes at school for use in the classrooms (like board games, card games, and other supplies) so that the class can benefit from them on rainy day recess and during fun friday free-choice times.
The STEM science kits were chosen to continue our focus on science, technology and math as we are a STEM-focused school.
