Students today need to be ready for the future and jobs in computers will be the jobs of the future. Students come to the library where they use computers for the online catalog and for research. With only 2 student computers in my library, computer use is limited.
One of their favorite lessons is coding but we only get to do it once a year when we can borrow chromebooks from a grade level. The joy and energy seen on those days is so rewarding. With a set of chromebooks of my own, we can experience it more often. With a chromebook for every student, they would be able to progress at their own rate as well as being able to experience this learning throughout the school year instead of just once a year. Watching those who understand what to do quicker is a joy but being able to sit down with those who do not get it as easily would be so rewarding.
On top of coding, research is a part of the curriculum in every grade level in elementary school. With a chromebook for each individual student, they would be able to use technology along side print text on the topic they are researching.
