I am a grade k-6 media specialist in an elementary school in the city of Selma, Alabama. The school has a student population of 170. The school is predominantly African-American, with most of the students on free or reduced lunch status. The school is located in the midst of Selma's poorest and most violence-plagued neighborhoods, and because of these factors, most of our students come to school weary, unmotivated, and lost.
