"When can we play??" These are the famous words said by almost every kindergartener I've ever met! Kindergarteners are eager to learn and come to me ready to learn and play! They give 110% every day during reading, math, writing, etc., but their favorite part of the day is FREE CHOICE TIME!! I believe that kindergarteners who are given multiple opportunities throughout the day to play, attend better during instructional time. I am beginning my 20th year as a classroom teacher and my free choice area needs some updating. We are in need of a new doll house and people, puzzles, learning games, and creative manipulatives. Young children learn best through play that is facilitated, meaningful, engaging, and fun. Having a variety of learning toys and manipulatives means my students will be engaged and able to apply concepts learned through instruction into their play. We would love to see our free choice area enhanced with these new items so they can continue to learn through play and with each other. Thank you for your consideration in helping us build a more exciting and creative area in our classroom!
