My classroom was flooded during Hurricane Harvey. I lost everything but a box of materials. My students are great kids who are trying to overcome hardships from the flood at home, and trying to make the most of our time going to school half day at a campus that is not our own.
Many of the things we need to replace such as teacher resources, books, supplies. etc. are essential, but we also need some things that make our day at school a welcome escape from the things going on in our homes, businesses, and our town.
These kids are so wonderful about being excited about small things at school. A new game, a new book, a new spiral are all things that bring a simple smile to their day.
The reality is that they still have to learn everything required and still have to take a test at the end of the year. Anything that makes these things easier for the kids is a wonderful asset to our room that is destroyed.
