We are an elementary level Life Skills Special Needs Classroom in a neighborhood school. My students are hard workers ranging from Kindergarten to Fifth Grade. These students work on developing confidence to succeed with academic tasks, as well as confidence with interpersonal skills as they interact with others in the school.
My students are not traditional learners. They benefit from being provided with choices for learning, and flexible seating opportunities give them these choices. Equipment requested in our Donors Choose projects reflect seating alternatives that will provide the students with comfortable places to learn and grow. This would allow for diversity in a classroom that addresses learning for a wide range of ages and needs. In such an environment, it is my hope that students will feel at home as they learn to take risks to expand their own learning, and also help each other.
